| Calibration |
[different name: adjustment] a
set of activities due to which the indications of weighing instrument are corrected
and referred to value of known standard mass. A weighing instrument can be equipped
with automatic or semi-automatic adjusting device. This device should be installed
inside the casing of the weighing instrument. Access to this device from outside
the casing should be practically impossible. |
 |
| Automatic
calibration |
[different
name: automatic adjustment] a
set of automatic activities (operator is not involved in this process) determining
the relation between the value indicated on the weighing instrument and standard
mass (calibration mass), which is the load on the weighing instrument and correction
activities which occur when necessary. Automatic adjustment can be activated if
temperature change occurs and/or time elapse. |
 |
| Calibration report |
[different name: adjustment
report] Control procedure where first adjustment/calibration is performed and
next the checking of this procedure is done. Most often, this is achieved by placing
the same load (the one used for calibration) on the weighing platform. In weighing
instruments equipped with automatic adjusting device, the operator initiates the
start of report from calibration and the whole cycle runs automatically. Result
of this procedure are presented as a printout including basic information like
data and time of measurement, serial no. of weighing instrument, calibration deviation
and operator's signature, etc. |
 |
| Calibration Weight |
| Measuring device designer for adjustment
of weighing instrument. It is a standard weight, which mass is a reference to
all indications of weighing instrument. 123 mm. |
 |
| Carat [ct] |
| Measuring unit outsided SI group, applied
in jewelry industry: 1 ct = 0,2 g |
 |
| Checkweighing |
Software function present in some types
of weighing instruments. Characteristics of this function is precise measuring
of a sample for which the lower and upper threshold are defined. Lower threshold
(LO) - the sample mass is too small, upper threshold (HI) - the sample mass is
too big, OK. - mass of sample is within the thresholds. Such software solution
is a good means for fast determination of sample mass with no need for constant
supervising of weighing process. Weighing result is indicated as graphic interpretation
on weighing instrument display. In industrial solutions, the thresholds are indicated
by lights. Additionally, the weighing instruments may be accompanied by controlling
module for peripheral devices. |
 |
| Legal Metrology Control |
Way of supervising a country over measuring
instruments for certain applications. Referring to non-automatic weighing instruments
from before 1st of May 2004 this control was maintained by type approval (decisions
of Polish main Measuring Office chairman), first verification and periodically
performed second verification. |
 |
| Counting pieces |
Weighing instrument operation mode
which calculates mass of measured details into its quantity. It is a quotient
of overall mass of pieces on the weighing pan and average mass of single piece. Depending
on solution, unit mass is calculated on basis of current measurements or collecting
data from data base. |
